Taking Tenniscore into Fall

California's weather is still warm in September, but it's time to transition summer 2024's tenniscore into fall. Here's how I'm doing it.

You can choose a long-sleeve plaid shirt if you live in a cooler place. Whether long-sleeve or short-sleeve, a plaid shirt goes extremely well with a tennis skirt, giving it a preppy look that's forever chic, especially in the back-to-school time of year.

Now, the it color of this fall, namely burgundy, can contribute a great deal to preppy styling. Frankly speaking, burgundy is a tricky color that has to be made preppy in order to avoid looking matronly. Burgundy plaid is exactly how to make burgundy preppy, given plaid as the preppiest pattern.

Whether to tuck in or leave out the plaid shirt depends on your waist-hip ratio. If the waist is more than 10 inches smaller than the hips, then accentuating the waist will be more slimming. Although this year's tennis skirts are all low-waist, adding a wide belt on top of a low-waist tennis skirt can cinch the natural waist.

As a matter of fact, low-waist bottoms would look unflattering on most women. We should avoid becoming fashion victims. Cinching the natural waist can be fashionable, too. The bow at the center of my belt is totally trendy.

Speaking of fashion trends, loafers are the trendiest shoes this fall. Why not complete a preppy + tenniscore-inspired outfit with burgundy loafers?

This fall's loafers are supposed to go with socks, but we don't necessarily have to wear thick socks that would optically thicken the ankles. Better to choose low socks if you have thin ankles.

Hopefully, these styling tips help flatter your figure. Happy September!
